Islamabad, April 25, 2026: Pakistan has successfully launched its indigenous Electro-Optical Satellite (EO-3) from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre in China, marking a significant advancement in the country’s space and Earth-observation capabilities. What makes EO-3 particularly significant is that it carries Pakistan’s first AI-powered satellite computer. The onboard artificial-intelligence system is designed to process satellite data in space, enabling real-time analysis and intelligent decision-making rather than relying entirely on ground stations for processing. The satellite is equipped with advanced imaging technology and an experimental Multi-Geometry Imaging Module, along with an advanced energy-storage system. EO-3 is expected to provide important data for:

According to SUPARCO, EO-3 is part of a broader effort to establish an integrated Earth Observation System capable of supporting national development and decision-making. Growing indigenous capability
EO-3 follows Pakistan’s earlier indigenous electro-optical satellites. EO-1 was launched in January 2025, while EO-2 was launched in February 2026. Why the AI component matters

An onboard AI system can potentially identify, classify or prioritize useful information before transmission.
For Pakistan, this could eventually mean faster responses to floods, crop problems, environmental changes and other events, while reducing the amount of raw data that needs to be transmitted to ground stations.
